Bvb x fairafric

Fair play at eye level

Here you can find out all about our project with Borussia Dortmund and our limited edition BVB fan chocolate.

Fair play and win-win for everyone. This is what fairafric stands for together with BVB.

The project

With the proceeds from the limited edition BVB fan chocolate, we have jointly financed the sustainable renovation of the soccer pitch in Amanase, a small town in the Eastern Region of Ghana. The pitch is 3 kilometers away from our factory. Well over 500 pupils from 9 schools now play here.

To make this possible, BVB waived its usual license fees and instead invested 10% of the purchase price per board in the renovation work on the soccer pitch together with fairafric. We are also delighted about the generous participation of PUMA, which supported the cooperation with jerseys, nets and balls.

Visit from BVB to fairafric

On June 8, 2022, the long-time BVB professional, former Ghanaian national player and sports director of the Accra Lions Ibrahim Tanko visited the fairafric chocolate factory in Amanase.

With local production, fairafric sets in motion a sustainable and holistic change that strengthens the local economy, secures regular incomes for families and promotes the development of local infrastructure.

"The cooperation with BVB is something special. It's about people and I can really see that buying the chocolate makes a difference, that's a great thing."

- Ibrahim Tanko

The construction of the soccer pitch in Amanase

Amanase's old soccer pitch needed a lot of attention and love. The young footballers from the surrounding schools had to play on uneven surfaces, making every soccer match very unfair. BVB and fairafric joined forces and started the renovation in May 2022.

The local community had a great interest in the soccer pitch becoming an intact and vibrant heart of the village again. As a first step, the area was leveled, covered with loamy soil and grassed over. Now Amanase has a modern, well-equipped soccer pitch on which the community wants to produce the potential soccer stars of tomorrow!

The management of fairafric on the cooperation

"Sport connects people like no other activity. It is a great honor for us to welcome former Black Stars player Ibrahim Tanko to our plant. This is a strong signal that BVB is joining our movement to make a difference. We want to show the potential of rural regions in Ghana like Amanase - there is much more to come!"

Michael Marmon-Halm, Managing Director Ghana

"With the cooperation between fairafric and BVB, we win the triple: a new football pitch in rural Ghana through the donated license income, new jobs in Ghana through local production and outstanding organic chocolate for BVB fans. We are delighted to take this step with BVB and show together how real fair trade works!"
