Episode 10: The Story of Mayqueen

Folge 10: The Story of Mayqueen

Foreword Hendrik

Sometimes life takes us on detours so we can find our true purpose – and that’s exactly what happened to Mayqueen.

When Mayqueen first applied to join us, it was for a production role. But already during the first interview, we realized that her passion went far beyond that – she had a special talent for inspiring people and bringing stories to life.

That passion became the foundation for our very first Farm-to-Factory Tour, which she developed entirely from scratch. In just a year and a half, she guided more than 3,000 visitors through the world of chocolate, making the journey from bean to bar come alive.

Today, Mayqueen Serwaa Frimpong leads production at fairafric and Amanase – with precision, heart, and a deep love for chocolate. Her story reminds us that true fulfillment begins where passion meets purpose.

A detour to destiny

She discovered her passion for science and precision early on. Born in 1996 in the Ashanti Region and raised as the only girl among three brothers, she went on to study Food Science and Technology at the University of Cape Coast. Originally, she wanted to pursue a career in medicine — until, during a hospital internship, she realized that her true passion lay elsewhere: in creating joy rather than treating pain. An internship at the Cocoa Processing Company in Tema, Ghana’s first cocoa processing factory, changed everything. There, she discovered her fascination for food production — and for chocolate.

Meet Mayqueen

Mayqueen Serwaa Frimpong was born in 1996 in Ghana’s Ashanti Region and grew up as the only girl among three brothers. Her passion for science and precision led her to study Food Science and Technology at the University of Cape Coast. Today, she is the Head of Production at fairafric and Amanase.

How Mayqueen brought our Farm-to-Factory vision to life

When Mayqueen applied to fairafric in 2022, she originally wanted to work in production. But during the interview, it quickly became clear: her energy, organizational talent, and communication skills were meant for something bigger. Instead of operating a machine, she was given the task of building an entirely new project — the Farm-to-Factory Program, which shows visitors from around the world the journey of the cocoa bean all the way to the finished chocolate.

Within just a year and a half, Mayqueen guided more than 3,000 visitors through the factory, connecting people to the vision of fairafric and Amanase, and inspiring them with her knowledge, passion, and warmth. Among visitors, she soon earned the nickname “Chocolate Queen” — a tribute to her expertise and charisma.

Mayqueen’s path into production

After her success with the Farm-to-Factory program, a new chapter began for Mayqueen: a return to her original passion — food production.

Thanks to her technical background and experience in building structures, she eventually took over the management of production at fairafric and Amanase. Today, she leads a team of nearly 100 chocolatiers who craft handmade chocolate every day for fair and sustainable markets around the world.

Her goal is to combine excellence with humanity — every product should not only meet the highest quality standards but also tell a story: a story of opportunity, passion, and change in Ghana.

A role model for a new generation

Mayqueen represents a new generation of Ghanaian leaders – women who take responsibility with courage, empathy, and professionalism.

Her journey shows that success doesn’t always follow a straight path but often begins where you choose to trust your passion.

“Fulfillment begins where passion meets purpose.”

Watch the video now Mayqueen talks openly about her journey, the hurdles of being a working mother and what it means to her to have found a place at fairafric where both family and career are possible.
